Art Project #10 (September 1998)

Mriver & T.Whid Art Associates proudly present:
The Direct to Your Home Art Projects!

Johnny Appleseed is one of the heroes of M. River and T.Whid Art Associates. We like to think we are spreading contemporary art across the world as he spread his apple seed across the United States; disseminating as much as possible with the hope that some sweet and succulent fruit may be enjoyed.

But we are sometimes troubled by the image of Johnny in our minds as a haggard, somewhat insane vagabond who may be spreading a not so innocent seed along with his agricultural project. A perverse compulsion to propagate a species of tree seems a strange way to order ones life.

But, then again, you can eat the fruit and drink the juice.

Follow these simple steps to collect contemporary art:

  1. Trace or draw an apple on your wall in red crayon.
  2. Draw an arrow from the bottom of the apple image vertically straight down to the floor. The tip of the arrow head should be tangent to the floor.
  3. Write or print next to the apple: ' Johnny has fallen face down.'
  4. Capture an image as documentation.
